Shadows in the Corner

Shadows in the Corner
By Amberly M. Oosthuizen

I toss and turn
to now avail,
I can't sleep.

I lie on my side,
start to silently
cry.

A tiny light in the corner,
Shadows blocking it.

"Mommy"
I'm scared
"Mommy"

No answer.

Deep down,
I know she doesn't care
But I hope,
I pray...

They creep closer...

"Mommy" are you there?

Perfect Gentleman

Perfect Gentleman
By Amberly M. Oosthuizen

A lot of the guys I've come to know,
are jerks.
So when I saw you on campus,
I believed otherwise.

People only talked about-
the good in you.
and I believed them

Yet now I see.

Was I an idiot to believe,
Your deceiving pretenses,
The only facet of the truth.

You mind was not pure,
It was corrupted,
The other guys

So I ask:
Will the Perfect Gentleman please,
Stand up.

And I waited...

But you didn't...

Hush

Hush
By Amberly M. Oosthuizen

I feel myself letting go
Losing all control
Slipping through the cracks.

Does anyone hear me?
I'm screaming,
Calling out for someone,
Anyone.
Is anyone listening?

Can you hear me...

The weight of the loneliness
crushing me
The feel of invisibility
People see right through me...

I hope you're listening,
Will you miss me
If I slip away?

Struggling to make you see.
The very best part of me.

Random Thoughts of My Heart

Random Thoughts of My Heart
By Amberly M. Oosthuizen

Poets' fighting,
Glasses broken
A man tasting syrup
Out of a wine-glass

Sweet remnants of summer

Coffee--
Freshly brewed,
Ice-cream sticks
Post-its on a fridge

Random thoughts
of my heart...

Swallowed Brilliance

Swallowed Brilliance
By Amberly M. Oosthuizen

A man's brilliance being eaten up by ducks,
October
It's chilly out

He argues with the geese,
pulls out a gun.

Shots are fired
Bullets 'ricochet' off the air
They hit the water.

A girl,
lying on the grass
Screams

Blood rushing down the pavement,
'Ricochet'ed bullet
in her chest
